This Privacy Policy explains how Better Than My Ex™ (“BTME™”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the BTME™ dating service.
1. Information we collect
Depending on the features you use, BTME™ may collect:
- Name and profile information.
- Email address used for account creation, authentication and account recovery.
- Phone number where supplied for supported functionality such as trusted-contact features.
- Precise location when you enable location-dependent SafeDate™ functionality.
- Messages exchanged through BTME™ messaging features.
- Photos or videos you choose to provide, including profile media and supported verification functionality.
- Other user content, such as profile text, preferences, safety reports and other information you submit.
- User identifiers associated with your BTME™ account.
- Device or installation identifiers used for supported security and SafeDate™ functionality.
- Purchase history and subscription entitlement information relating to BTME Premium.
- Sensitive information you choose to provide as part of a dating profile or preference experience where applicable.
2. Why we use your information
We primarily use information to operate BTME™, authenticate accounts, provide profiles, discovery, matching, messaging, dates, SafeDate™, safety controls, verification, subscriptions, security and customer support.
Where profile or dating preference information affects recommendations or discovery, it may also be used to personalise the service.
3. Location information
Precise location is only used where required for location-dependent features such as SafeDate™ and subject to applicable device permissions. Location access can be controlled through your device settings.
4. Messages and profile content
Information you submit through profiles or messages is stored and processed as necessary to provide those features and maintain safety, integrity and service functionality.
5. Purchases
BTME Premium subscriptions are purchased through Apple's App Store. Apple handles payment-card and payment-account information. BTME™ does not receive your raw payment-card number from Apple. We may receive transaction, subscription and entitlement information necessary to provide Premium access.
6. Tracking and advertising
BTME™ does not use the data types declared in the App Store privacy disclosure for cross-app advertising tracking.
7. Service providers
We use technology and infrastructure providers to operate BTME™, including backend hosting, authentication, storage and database services. Such providers process data on our behalf or as necessary to deliver their services.
8. Security
We use technical and organisational measures intended to protect information from unauthorised access, misuse, alteration or loss. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
9. Retention
We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide BTME™, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, protect users, enforce agreements and maintain security. Retention periods can differ depending on the type of information and reason it is held.
10. Your rights
Depending on applicable law, including UK data-protection law, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of personal information, and to object to certain processing.
11. Account deletion
You may request deletion using available in-app controls or by contacting support. See our Account Deletion page. Deleting a BTME™ account does not automatically cancel an Apple subscription.
12. International processing
Some service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, appropriate safeguards are used for international data transfers.
13. Children
BTME™ is a dating service intended for adults and is not directed at children.
14. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy where our service, technology or legal obligations change. The current version will be published on this page.
